Celebrated comedian Daniel Ndambuki who goes by the names Churchill on his Churchill show and Mwalimu King’ang’i on Classic 105’s Maina and King’ang’i show has hit out at his colleague in Radio Africa Group, Caroline Mutoko, over her comments regarding immediate former Kenyatta University Vice Chancellor Professor Olive Mugenda.
In a Facebook post, Mutoko had blasted Mugenda for minding about building structures in Kenyatta University at the expensive of enhancing education and research which she said is the core activity of any learning institution.
Mutoko minced no words when she said Mugenda had done nothing of real worth to earn all the acclaim and praise she was receiving from certain quarters.
“KU is an educational institution and its chief trade should be on education, not building Unicities, buying hotels at the coast and starting secular TV stations for the sake of making money. KU is offering everything including agriculture yet it does not have any land under agriculture. Aren’t we wasting our sons and daughters?,” Mutoko quipped.
Her statement came after Kenyatta University council awarded Mugenda a hefty send-off package for her incredible work for the 10 years she was in charge of the Thika Superhighway-situated public university.
But Churchill seems to have a different opinion all together. Having studied at the institution, the comedian defended Mugenda saying she has transformed KU into a world class university thanks to her admirable development record.
Churchill who seemed irked by the criticism the VC was receiving from a section of Kenyans led by his colleague Mutoko told those not impressed to apply for the job she has left behind.
“Wale mnasema Mugenda hakufanya kitu KU you don’t know. Apply basi mwende mkafanye hiyo hakufanya Those saying Mugenda did nothing in KU you don’t know.
Apply for the post and go do what she failed to do). Those speaking never visited KU when it a Shamba la Wanyama (animal farm). Today it is a world class university thanks to Mugenda,” Churchill said.
Mugenda leaves office after serving as VC for 10 years. She has since declined the perks she was given, saying she is ok with what she achieved as the head of the institution.
